HMA is a membership organization whose mission is to encourage, support and develop whole-person ministries leading to the integration of faith and health. Neither HMA nor the American Nurses Association (ANA) endorse programs of education. A number of educational preparation programs for entry into the specialty practice of parish nursing are available across the United States. We suggest that those interested in pursuing quality education contact individual state University Schools of Nursing, Schools of Theology, local Faith and Health Partnerships, the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, and Religious Denominations/Organizations for information regarding such courses. Interested persons should review the curriculum and identify content that match the published Scope & Standards of Parish Nursing Practice, as minimal education to meet the standards for practice. Curriculum for Health Ministers is being developed by various institutions and organizations and will be made available in different areas of the country. For additional information on education, contact Peggy Matteson, HMA Education Chair. (hot link to Education)
